The health statistics for Northland’s population are poor. This provides an array of clinical challenges and exposure to conditions which are rare in other places, e.g. rheumatic fever, tuberculosis and meningococcal disease.

Clinical experience is also varied as most consultants are generalists rather than sub-specialists and see a varied patient population.
