Healthy Environments (Health Protection) team provides regulatory and audit services, public advisory services in the areas of food, drinking water, waste management, communicable disease control, mosquito surveillance, environmental health, resource management and hazardous substance management. The team also deals with public health aspects of civil defence and emergency management.
The Healthy Environments team is a highly qualified team that monitor many places and factors in our environment. If not properly cared for or managed these factors can cause individual and even large outbreaks of serious and potentially fatal illnesses. As well as undertaking surveillance activities, for example, monitoring for exotic mosquito species at the points of entry into Northland, the team have various statutory powers to control and abate some of these situations.
