"High 5 for clean hands" Launch

Wednesday, 09 May 2007
Northland District Health Board will launch a special project to schools and early childhood centres, focusing on the lifelong importance of good hand hygiene.

The DHB's Public Health team will launch the programme, called "High 5 for Clean Hands", on Tuesday, 15 May at Forum North, Whangarei, to representatives from Northland's schools and early childhood centres, as well as health professionals from throughout the region.
The programme's goal is to effectively spread the message throughout Northland that thoroughly cleaning and drying hands is one of the most significant things that children and their families can do to prevent the spread of illnesses.

DHB staff will launch the new resources of stickers, brochures, posters and teaching kits and videos. Resource packs are aimed at two groups, those aged 0-5 years, and those aged 5-12 years. The 0-5 year olds video features Forest View Kindergarten children, and the 5-12 year olds video features local hip- hop dancers, The Kani Krew.

Resources include key reminders and triggers for excellent hand hygiene, with catchy phrases and vibrant illustrations, to help all Northlanders to protect themselves from illness by the simple act of thoroughly washing and drying their hands.

The resources will be further demonstrated by public health nurses in early childhood centres, primary and intermediate schools throughout Northland.
