Media Releases Increased parking at Whangarei Hospital Increased parking at Whangarei Hospital
Tuesday, 26 June 2007
Northland District Health Board is set to open two new car parks at Whangarei Hospital, increasing the amount of free parking for the public. An additional 120 spaces will be created by the end of July, adding to more than 1000 existing free parking spaces at the district's main hospital. Construction has commenced on 14 extra spaces in front of Maunu House on Maunu Road, within easy walking distance of the main hospital entrance. A new staff-only car park, with swipe card access, is also being constructed at the rear of the hospital site. This will free up a further 92 spaces for the public in other car parks currently allocated to staff. This includes the car park at Norton House (accessed from Maunu Road via gate 7). The completion of the new staff car park will provide 40 additional public spaces at Norton House, and staff will be prohibited from using public car parks. Another 14 spaces are being created alongside the access road to Norton House from Maunu Road. During construction, access through gate 7 at Whangarei Hospital will be closed, with access and exit points provided. Brett Attwood, Northland DHB’s Facilities Manager, said: “Parking is often an issue for people coming to Whangarei Hospital, especially if they have limited mobility. We hope that these changes and the creation of additional spaces within easy walking distance will go some way to relieving the situation. All parking spaces at and around the hospital are free of charge.”
