International Nurses Day 2007

Thursday, 10 May 2007
Northland DHB will mark International Nurses Day 2007 by presenting all nursing staff with Personal development portfolios.

The portfolios are a crucial element of nursing registration, and contribute to the ongoing development of the team, which makes up 42 per cent of the DHB's total workforce.
Static displays set up in high traffic areas in all four DHB hospitals will acknowledge the specific projects undertaken by the entire Northland DHB nursing team, including hospital and public health nurses.

These displays will change regularly, in an effort to ensure the theme of International Nurses Day 2007: "Positive Practice Environments: Quality Workplaces = Quality Patient Care" is highlighted throughout the year.

In past International Nurses Day commemorations, Northland DHB has held a forum with the nursing team, to discuss ways of enhancing their working environment. This year's forum will be held later in the year, with the emphasis on best practice and quality initiatives.

International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every 12 May, coinciding with the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. Activities continue for much of the year, and communities are encouraged to acknowledge the tireless efforts of nurses.

Northland DHB's Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Denise Brewster-Webb, along with her entire team, is excited to have the opportunity to celebrate our nurses throughout the year.
