Nominations open for DHB election candidates

Northland residents who are interested in health are invited to consider standing as candidates in the upcoming District Health Board elections.
All DHBs in New Zealand will be holding elections in October, to determine who will govern the provision of district health services for the next three years. Nominations for candidates open this week (Friday 27 July) and remain open until 24 August, with Election Day taking place on 13 October.



DHB elections take place at the same time as local authority elections, including district and regional councils.



Northland DHB CEO, Karen Roach, said that the Board sought people with a wide range of skills and qualities, including integrity, strategic leadership and governance experience, as well as understanding of health and community issues.



DHBs are governed by Boards consisting of 11 members, seven elected by the local community and up to four appointed by the Minister of Health. All members are directly responsible to the Minister.



Residents must be registered on the electoral roll in order to be nominated for election or to vote. Election enrolment packs have been sent to all registered electors and voting will take place by post.



Preliminary election results are likely to be announced on the evening of 13 October or the following day. These will be published on the DHB's web site: www.northlanddhb.org.nz. Candidate information will also be available on the web site, after 24 August.

·         Kaipara District Council, 42 Hokianga Road, Dargaville

·         Whangarei District Council, Forum North, Rust Ave, Whangarei

·         Northland DHB, Maunu House, Maunu Road, Whangarei.
