Northland DHB Weather Update

Wednesday, 11 July 2007
Northland District Health Board reports no significant problems with services as a result of the current weather situation in the region.

Kaitaia Hospital took in 36 elderly residents from the Switzer Home last night after the home was evacuated. The day surgery wing was opened to accommodate them, as well as other available beds at the hospital. The transfer went smoothly and the residents will remain at Kaitaia Hospital until it is safe to return to the Switzer Home. Rest home staff are assisting Kaitaia Hospital with the residents' continued care.

Other Northland DHB Hospitals in Whangarei, Kawakawa and Dargaville are running as normal with no significant disruption to services. Water and power supplies are being maintained, staffing levels are reasonable although some staff have been unable to travel to work, and there are no bed shortages.

District nurses are contacting community-based patients to check on their needs including dialysis patients and those dependent on home oxygen supplies.

Water quality in Whangarei, Kaipara and Far North Districts is being monitored by our Public Health Team along with district councils, and any health risks will be reported as they come to hand.
