Media Releases Strike by laboratory workers ends Strike by laboratory workers ends
Friday, 13 April 2007
The 48-hour strike called by medical laboratory workers ended this morning at 0800. Hospitals throughout Northland were fairly quiet during this period, which assisted staff in managing the flow of patients. All patients requiring urgent laboratory testing were able to have tests performed, through the DHB’s agreement with the laboratory workers’ union. There were a total of 13 LPS (Life-Preserving Services) episodes during the 48-hour strike. From 0800 11 April to 0800 12 April, there were seven LPS episodes involving six patients. During the period from 0800 12 April to 0800 13 April, there were six LPS episodes involving four patients. Northland DHB would like to thank all staff and health professionals who assisted with managing the effects of the strike. Further industrial action has been called for 24 and 26 April (0001 – 2400 on both days). The DHB will be working to ensure that contingency plans are again in place to ensure patient safety during these times. -Ends- For further information, please contact: Clare Blackburn, Communications Manager Northland District Health Board Phone (09) 430 4101 ext 3315 |
