Media Releases Visitors to Bay of Islands Hospital warned about car break-ins Visitors to Bay of Islands Hospital warned about car break-ins
Wednesday, 08 August 2007
Patients and visitors attending Bay of Islands Hospital at Kawakawa are warned that there has been a spate of break-ins to cars parked in the grounds. Despite increased security and lighting at the hospital there has been a series of break-ins over the last couple of months, with around 10 vehicles being broken into and goods stolen. Hospital staff are working closely with the police to identify the offenders and bring them to justice. However Operations Manager Shirley August warned anyone visiting the hospital, as a patient or visitor, not to leave valuables in their vehicle. She said it appeared that cars belonging to staff, patients and visitors were being targeted, especially in the early evenings and at weekends. She urged anyone with information about the thefts to contact the police. She said: "It is very distressing for someone who has come to visit a sick relative or friend, or for hospital treatment, to find they have been the victim of a crime. I advise people not to leave any goods in their vehicle which may make them a target." -Ends- For further information, please contact: Clare Blackburn, Communications Manager Northland District Health Board Phone (09) 430 4101 ext 3315 |
