Co-funders

Northland DHB is committed to fulfilling our statutory responsibilities and obligations to Maori under the NZ Public Health and Disability Act 2000. This means implementing and maintaining relationships with Maori that recognise and respect the Treaty of Waitangi principles of partnership, participation and active protection of Maori health interests, in order to improve health outcomes and reducing inequalities for Maori.

For Northland DHB, this means enabling Maori participation in funding, planning and decision making at both governance (the elected Board) and operational levels. Operationally, the Service Development and Funding team work in partnership with two Maori co-funding bodies known as MAPO. Te Tai Tokerau MAPO’s responsibilities for Maori include the Whangarei and Far North District Council areas, while Tihi Ora MAPO’s responsibilities for Maori coincide with the Kaipara district.

The nature of NDHB’s relationship with the MAPO is one of active partnership engagement in funding and planning decision-making, in order to improve the health of Maori and reduce inequalities. It is described in thedoc Partnership Agreement with Te Tai Tokerau MAPO.
