Physiotherapy – Bay of Islands Hospital


Physiotherapy is the treatment of human conditions by physical means and is available to those who have been referred by:
  • Whangarei Base Hospital
  • Specialists
  • GPs
  • Other Health Professionals
Physiotherapy treatments cover both outpatients and inpatients and the following musculoskeletal conditions, respiratory problems, arthritis, sporting injuries, stroke, MS, Parkinson disease, cerebral palsy, head injuries, joint replacement – post surgery, hand injuries – post surgery, amputations, incontinence, mobility problems, gout re-education.

Treatments includes: exercise therapy, rehab programmes, home exercise programmes, ultrasound, transcutaneous nerve stimulation (TNS), hot/cold treatments, massage, manipulation, mobilisation, postural draining, education for back care/lifting, strapping, provision and education in use of walking aids of all types.

The ‘physio’ service is free and co-ordinates with other service providers within the Northland DHB.

Please feel free to discuss any aspects of your condition or treatment with us. Also to bring support with you to your treatment sessions. Family/whanau and friends are welcome provided they are mindful of the needs of others.

Hours: Mon - Fri 8.00am to 4.30pm
Location: Through the main entrance to the hospital and follow the signs down the long corridor to the right.
