Medical Ward - Ward 14


Ward 14 is a 26-bed unit providing acute hospital level care for inpatients. Ward 14 provides care for General Medical and Renal patients.

Our patients are mainly admitted via the Emergency Department and Renal unit. Ward 14 also takes patients who require an admission for some elective procedures.
Medical Ward
There are 7 General physicians and 3 Renal physicians attached to the medical service.

A medical team will manage your health care, the team consists of a house office, a registrar and consultant physician. Occasionally a medical student will be working with the team.
Monday to Friday Patients are seen by one of the team every day. On weekends and Public holidays you will be seen as required by the on call team.

Ward 14 is managed by a Nurse Manager and Team leader who is available on the ward Monday to Friday during the day. Nursing staff work in 3 shifts through 24hours. Patients are each assigned a nurse for each shift.

There is a Multidisciplinary team working in the Medical Service, which includes a Ward Clerk, Social Worker, Dietitian, Speech Language Therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, and Takawaenga (Maori Health Liaison). Chaplains are available on request.

Families are welcome to be present for the ward rounds and if they wish to see the doctor looking after their family member the staff will facilitate this.

The Whangarei Hospital Medical Service strives to deliver good quality care. We welcome feedback as this helps us to improve our service delivery. We have purple forms to write your comments on or you can ask to speak to the Team Leader or Nurse Manager.

Hours: Visiting times 11am to 8pm every day
