Operating Theatre
There are 6 operating theatres plus an Endoscopy room at Whangarei Hospital.

The surgical specialties provided include: -
  • General Surgery
  • Endoscopy
  • Orthopaedics
  • Ophthalmology
  • Ear, Nose and Throat surgery (ENT)
  • Obstetrics and gynaecology
  • Plastics and Dental
  • Acutes/Trauma
Anaesthetic and Intensive care departments provide support for these specialties, along with the day surgery and inpatient facilities.
Whangarei does not have specialist services for complex vascular surgery or neurosurgery. The patients requiring these services are assigned to Auckland Hospital operating lists.

Paediatric and Oral surgeons visit at times throughout the year. This minimises travel for some patients and provided support to Northland surgical practitioners.
Some of our staff assist on the Mobile Surgical Services Bus as it travels around Northland on a regular basis.

Surgical services strive to provide quality care, working alongside other providers who interface with and impact on these services.
