Te Poutokomanawa is the Maori Health Service Directorate of Northland DHB (Te Poari Hauora A Rohe O Te Tai Tokerau).
Te Poutokomanawa is made up of experienced Maori health specialists available to access all health services in the Kaitaia, Bay of Islands, Whangarei and Dargaville hospitals.

Takawaenga Service
(Maori Health Liaison Officer)
Staff available to visit turoro (patients) and whanau throughout Northland DHB hospitals
Te Whaea o Te Iwi
(Emergency Accommodation)
Located through Gate 1 of Hospital Road at Whangarei Hospital offering short term, emergency, marae style accommodation for an individual or family/whanau with a relative in admission status.
Education
Te Poutokomanawa Maori health service provides and coordinates “Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Cultural Safety in Practice education training which is renewable triannually.
Maori Health liaison/Takawaenga provide educational resources within their respective service areas.
Te Kaunihera/Council of Elders
Northland District Health Board acknowledges the importance and relevance of the Treaty of Waitangi in its day to day operational responsibilities and functions, therefore the Council of Elders has been established to provide oversight, advice, direction, and support on matters pertaining to Te Reo me ona Tikanga (Language and Cultural protocols) as it relates to Te Tai Tokerau.

Mon - Fri 7.30am - 4.00pm
Weekend On-call services are available for Maori consumer related (emergency) cultural support - Whangarei only
