The Board
Northland DHB is the major health provider for Northland. It employs
over 2200 staff across its services and manages 328 beds across its
four hospitals.
The Northland DHB is governed by a Board of seven community elected and
four Government appointed members with Māori representation
proportionate to that in the population as required by the NZ Public
Health & Disability Act 2000.
The role of the Board is to provide strategic oversight for the DHB,
taking into account the Government's overall vision for the health
sector as contained in the NZ Health Strategy and the NZ Disability
Strategy.
The Board members of the NDHB must work together in a financially responsible manner to
achieve its' objectives within the current annual budget.
Partnerships
Northland DHB has established a partnership arrangement to recognise
and respect the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, with Te Tai
Tokerau MAPO, and will sign a similar agreement with Te Runanga O Ngati
Whatua. All and any such agreements will be consistent with the
Government's guidelines for Crown-Maori Relationship Instruments
(C-MRI). These governance and operational relationships will ensure that the DHB and
Maori work together in improving the health status of all Northlanders.
