Craig served on the Whangarei District Council for 12 years and as the Mayor for six before being elected to the Northland Regional Council for four terms, spending that last three as chairman. He is a former police officer, involved in real estate sales, land development and sub division.
He has volunteered in a number of organisations including board of trustees, polytechnic council and school committees, resulting in receiving the New Zealand School Trustee award for services to education. He has also served 19 years with Lions. Craig's accolades include receiving a certificate of appreciation from HRH Prince of Wales for services to the Princes Trust and to NZ Youth and New Year's Honour MNSM.
Married to Helen, a nurse of 50 years and still employed by Northland DHB, they have two adult children and seven grandchildren. Together they have dairy, sheep, beef and angora goat farmed, Craig is also a Justice of the Peace.
