Update #83 - 4 June 2020

No new or active COVID-19 cases (confirmed and probable) in Northland for 48 days.

With just 1 active case of COVID-19 left in New Zealand, and no new cases detected for 13 straight days, it’s time for us to pause and recognise what we have achieved as a health sector.

Our Covid-19 Elimination Strategy(external link) is straightforward: keep it out, find it and stamp it out. We are now very close to eliminating domestic transmission of COVID-19 in New Zealand, and this is a result of the significant efforts and sacrifices by all New Zealanders.

At the beginning of the outbreak, none of us knew how it would play out. We acted early and hard calling on the whole health and disability sector to prepare for the worst, while making decisions designed to protect our health workforce and services. DHBs reorganised their hospitals and patient schedules, GPs and nurses pivoted quickly to remote consultations, and health professionals not currently in the workforce put their hands up and said of course they’d help if needed.

Health and disability workers all around the country have been instrumental in encouraging New Zealanders to do the right things to protect themselves and each other.  At the same time, you were on the front lines supporting the health and wellbeing of your patients, customers and clients and, given the uncertainty that took courage.

Much has changed over the last couple of months - we’ve proved our ability and willingness to protect the health of New Zealanders, and I am proud of all that we have achieved together. There is still much to do, and we need to continue to stick together.

Update #82 - 29 May 2020

No new cases (confirmed and probable) in Northland for 42 days – and we have NO active cases in Northland!

National picture:

• There are no new cases of COVID-19 to report in New Zealand today – the total confirmed and probable cases is unchanged at 1,504
• We have 1,481 people reported as having recovered from COVID-19
• Sadly there was one further death this week
• There is currently no cases in hospital
• The total number of tests completed to date is 275,852.

Update #82 - 28 May 2020

No new cases (confirmed and probable) in Northland for 41 days – and we have NO active cases in Northland!

Update #81

No new cases (confirmed and probable) in Northland for 35 days – and we have NO active cases in Northland!

• 28 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Northland (26 confirmed and 2 probable cases) – all 28 have recovered, we have NO active cases!

National picture:

• There are one new confirmed case of COVID-19 to report in New Zealand today – taking the combined total of confirmed and probable cases to 1,504
• We have 1,455 people reported as having recovered from COVID-19.
• There are no additional deaths to report 
• The total number of tests completed to date is 250,246.

From Monday 25 May asymptomatic testing across Northland will stop, this includes Community Based Testing Centres and Māori Health Providers. This is because;

• the risk of COVID-19 in New Zealand is now very low
• there is no evidence of community transmission from the testing in recent weeks
• border restrictions remain in place
• Northland DHB and the public health team are equipped to respond quickly and thoroughly if new cases are detected
• Northland cases of covid19 and their close contacts cooperated fully with isolation and quarantine requirements.

This advice may change in the future if the situation changes.

It will remain very important for people with symptoms of COVID-19 to be tested, and testing is available via our testing centres or your GP.

Are you planning to visit one of our hospitals? To ensure physical distancing we need to continue to restrict visiting. All inpatients can identify two people as their nominated visitors. Maximum of ONE visitor per day for up to 2 hours. Visiting hours are between 11am-8pm (any extension on compassionate grounds are at the discretion of the nurse in charge).

Update #80

No new cases (confirmed and probable) in Northland for 34 days – and we have NO active cases in Northland!

• This means New Zealand’s combined total of confirmed and probable cases remains at 1,503
• We have just 30 active cases in New Zealand - all others have recovered.
• There are no additional deaths to report 
• The total number of tests completed to date is 244,838.

Update #79

No new cases (confirmed and probable) in Northland for 33 days – and we have NO active cases in Northland!

• 28 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Northland (26 confirmed and 2 probable cases) – all 28 have recovered, we have NO active cases!

National picture:

• There are no new cases of COVID-19 to report in New Zealand today
• This means New Zealand’s combined total of confirmed and probable cases remains at 1,503
• We have 1,447 people reported as having recovered from COVID-19, this is 96 percent of all confirmed and probable cases
• There are no additional deaths to report 
• The total number of tests completed to date is 238,725.

Update #78

An update on testing:

• 8,822 tests have been carried out in Northland across Primary Care, Northland DHB hospitals, Community Based Testing Centres (CBTCs) and Aged Residential Care

National picture

• There are no new cases of COVID-19 to report in New Zealand today.
• This means New Zealand’s combined total of confirmed and probable cases remains at 1,498
• We have 1,428 people reported as having recovered from COVID-19
• There are no additional deaths to report.  
• 7,150 tests were processed yesterday, the total number of tests completed to date is 223,937.

Update #77

No new cases (confirmed and probable) in Northland for 31 days.

• 28 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Northland (26 confirmed and 2 probable cases) – all 28 have recovered, we have NO active cases!

An update on testing:

• 8,754 tests have been carried out in Northland to date across Primary Care, Northland DHB hospitals, Community Based Testing Centres (CBTCs) and Aged Residential Care
• 6,868 tests of all tests in Northland have been carried out at CBTCs and mobile testing.

National picture

• There are no new cases of COVID-19 to report in New Zealand today.
• This means New Zealand’s combined total of confirmed and probable cases remains at 1,499, of which 1,149 are confirmed cases of COVID-19.
• We have 1,433 people reported as having recovered from COVID-19, no change from yesterday. This is 96 percent of all confirmed and probable cases.  There remains 45 active cases in New Zealand.
• There are no additional deaths to report.  
• The total number of tests completed to date is 230,718.

• 6,805 tests (79%) of all tests in Northland have been carried out at CBTCs and mobile testing.
• 401 people were tested across CBTC’s and mobile testing yesterday.

• 6,404 tests (79%) of all tests in Northland have been carried out at CBTCs and mobile testing.
• 283 people were tested across CBTC’s and mobile testing yesterday.

• 6,121 tests (79%) of all tests in Northland have been carried out at CBTCs and mobile testing.
• 429 people were tested across CBTC’s and mobile testing yesterday.

Update #73

12/05/2020

No new cases (confirmed and probable) in Northland for 25 days!

No active cases of Covid-19 in Northland - all 28 confirmed and probable cases have recovered.

An update on testing: 

• 7,298 tests have been carried out in Northland to date across Primary Care, Northland DHB hospitals, Community Based Testing Centres (CBTCs) and Aged Residential Care
• 5,692 tests (78%) of all tests in Northland have been carried out at CBTCs and mobile testing.
• 264 people were tested across CBTC’s and mobile testing yesterday.

Update #72

11/05/2020

No new cases (confirmed and probable) in Northland for 24 days!

• 28 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Northland (26 confirmed and 2 probable cases)
• We have no cases of COVID-19 in hospital. 27 of the 28 total cases have now recovered.
