A fire broke out in Whangarei Hospitals Ward 1 this morning that was started by a faulty florescent light above the nurse’s station.
The water sprinkler system activated which contained the fire quickly.
Thankfully no one has been harmed as a result of the fire and all patients have been moved to other parts of the hospital.
Staff are doing an amazing job of cleaning up the ward and we hope to re-open Ward 1 this afternoon.
Elective surgery has been cancelled today however all day cases and acute surgery operations will continue.
