The aim of the Mobile Ear Clinic Service is the prevention or timely intervention and treatment of ear disease, to prevent complications, development delay, behavioural problems and educational disadvantage.

Free clinics are held across Northland.  The Mobile Ear Nurses work out of schools alongside the Public Health Nurse teams. Information about school based clinics will be available via your school through their correspondence or through your school Public Health Nurse.

Services provided for children and young people up to the age of 18 include:

  • Glue ear assessment
  • Treatment of discharging ears
  • Pre and post-grommet checks
  • Wax and foreign body removal
  • Education

Referrals are received from and sent to:

  • Audiology
  • Special Education Services (GSE)
  • Speech Therapy
  • Ear Nose and Throat Specialists
  • Paediatrics
  • Public Health Nurses and Youth Nurses
  • Plunket Nurses
  • Iwi Health Providers
  • General Practitioners
  • Clients may also 'self-refer' via their Public Health Nurse or Youth Nurse. 

Please Note: The Mobile Ear Clinic does not conduct Hearing tests
