Smokefree / Auahi Kore

The Smokefree team delivers public health service across the Northland region. This includes planning, implementation, encouragement and providing support to initiatives that aim to reduce smoking prevalence and the harms caused by smoking and an increase in smokefree environments.

The Smokefree team provides the following in areas relating to:

  • advocacy for smokefree environments, development and implementation of policy and promotion with communities, workplaces and schools
  • developing policies in collaboration with local councils to create more smokefree outdoor public spaces
  • provision of Smokefree information to tobacco and vaping retailers, and licensed premises
  • community development, focusing on initiatives that promote smokefree lifestyles, and support more Māori smokers to stop smoking
  • support service providers working with pregnant women; support collaboration and innovation to help pregnant women stop smoking
  • provide training to Northland DHB staff and enhance the Northland District Health Board’s Smokefree policy
  • Educate and monitor compliance with regard to the Smokefree Law.
