Health Minister Simeon Brown and Matt Doocey Minister for Mental Health, supported by Rueban Carpenter, officially opened Manaia House on Friday 11 April, our new community mental health and addictions facility in the heart of Whangārei.
Manaia House, which has 75 consultation rooms, will now provide all the region’s community mental health and addiction services, consolidating what was previously spread across four separate locations in Whangārei.
The ground floor will accommodate adult and older people’s services, the middle floor will accommodate children’s services, and the top floor will accommodate around 250 staff.
Thank you to the Kaumātua Kaunihera, Kaumātua Rex Nathan and Mare Clarke along with Mal Robson from Te Poutokomanawa for supporting tīkanga today and Rueban Carpenter who supported the Ministers.
It was wonderful to see Dr Nick Chamberlain and Ian McKenzie, who together had the vision of streamlining community mental health & addictions healthcare for the people of Te Tai Tokerau.
We acknowledge the design, construction and project team that ensured this facility was completed - despite major interruptions by mother nature.
Left to right - Carlos Tupou, Papanui Polamalu and Shane Hakaraia - artists who produced the range of artwork throughout the facility.
