Moving and Handling Ka Nuku Nuku Programme 

Moving and handling workshop 


These 90-minute practical and tailored workshops are designed for staff working with patients who require assistance with moving and transferring.

The objective is to raise the participant’s awareness of the factors that can lead to injury for themselves and their patients and to experience and apply safe handling principles to all their moving & handling tasks.

The recommendation is that staff from each department is trained together so that the skills acquired can be practised together following training.

 

Workshop Content:

  • Cause and effect of injury
  • LITE risk assessment and management
  • Principles of safe patient handling
  • How to move smart and safely – biomechanics
  • Area specific safe handling techniques including theatre specific techniques eg Lateral transfers prone positioning, limb holding
  • Dealing with patient falls
  • Equipment use e.g. slide sheets, handling belts, Pat slides, hovermat, hoist use
  • Stretches for injury prevention
