Alcohol and Other Drugs

Northland DHB’s Public Health Service carries out a range of regulatory and health promotion activities aiming to reduce alcohol and other drug related harm in the community. These include:

  • Public Health regulatory activity related to alcohol and other drugs
  • Involvement with policy development with council and other enforcement partners
  • Submissions and advocacy to central and local government on alcohol and drug issues
  • Encouraging community action to reduce alcohol and other drug-related harm
  • Promoting community awareness and knowledge about alcohol and other drug-related harm
  • Facilitating work-force development initiatives.

In conjunction with other agencies (including the Police, Fire, District Licensing Agency and District Councils) the Public Health Service works to reduce the health risks that might arise from the use of alcohol and other drugs.  Promotional activities are conducted across the Northland Region (Kaipara, Whangarei and the Far North).  Licensing activities are also carried out in the Kaipara area.
