Social Work

Health social workers provide free and confidential practical support to people of all ages after an accident, illness, and changes in life circumstances. Their role covers all areas within the health sector, including maternity, community rehabilitation, child and family, palliative care and care of the elderly person.

They provide holistic social work assessments and intervention using the Te Whare Tapa Wha framework. Social workers are happy to work alongside clients in their engagement with other agencies. They can assist in supporting you to complete forms for National Travel Assistance (NTA) and Work and Income. Social workers are mobile and able to see clients and families at Community Health, in the General Ward and in people’s homes. Clients are referred by other professionals and agencies and can also self-refer.
