Northland's own Health and Medical Museum
Founded by John Swinney FRCA, retired anaesthetist at Whangarei Hospital, the Northland Medical Museum Trust houses a comprehensive range of medical memorabilia and literature. It also rotates themed displays of medical objects between cabinets in Northland hospitals and private clinics.
The museum itself, formerly located in Hospital Rd, Whangarei, has now relocated to Heritage Park in larger premises. Although the museum has thousands of objects, including John Swinney's original collection, it is always looking for additional instruments (old and current) and health care memorabilia to expand display opportunities and themes.
Public entry to the museum is by way of Heritage Park, with private viewings via arrangement with the Curator, John Swinney.
