Early Childhood Education Centres - Health and Safety Assessments

We carry out health and safety assessments for early childhood education centres in the Northland region to assess compliance with legislative requirements.

These assessments are carried out as part of licensing or relicensing of centres, or if a concern has been raised about a centre. We look at child health at the centres, hygiene and infection control, play areas and sleeping facilities. For more information on the assessment please refer to the Appendix for ECE Inspections.

These include health and safety standards required by sections 45 and 46 of the Education (Early Childhood Services) Regulations 2008, on behalf of the Ministry of Education. This assessment is delegated by the Ministry of Health to public health units.

The assessment is one of a number of steps centres must take before they will be granted an opening licence from the Ministry of Education.

We have a representation on the “Celebrating Northland’s Tamariki” Early Childhood Conference committee.  This Northland conference is held biannually for professional development and learning for all staff, management and personnel involved in providing early childhood education services in Northland.
