Dargaville

The Kauri Coast at Dargaville is named after the famous giant Kauri trees of Waipoua and Trounson Forest, where you get a good chance to see Kiwi in the wild.

The area is one of the chief regions in the country for cultivating Kumara, which is why Dargaville is known as the 'Kumara Capital of New Zealand'.

The Northern Wairoa River is the longest in Northland and feeds into Kaipara Harbour, the biggest harbour in the southern hemisphere.

Ripiro Beach is New Zealand’s longest driveable beach, 110 kilometres from the southern end near Poutu Point to the northern Maunganui Bluff.

The nearby Kai Iwi lakes are the biggest sand dune lakes in New Zealand, ideal for water sports and safe swimming.
