Tsunami Evacuation Zone Messaging - Now Over and You Can Return Home

The evacuation of Northland’s Tsunami Zones following this morning’s magnitude 8.1 earthquake near KERMADEC ISLANDS REGION 

is now over and you can return home. 

The advice remains, for all areas under Beach and Marine threat, to stay off beach and shore areas.

Please be advised that Kaitaia, Bay of Islands, Dargaville and Whangarei Hospitals are not in the tsunami evacuation zone. 

The hospitals are safe and all necessary preparations have been made in case the tsunami makes land. 

If you are a staff member or someone visiting a hospital who may not be able to get home later today, please talk with your manager or nurse about a plan.

DO NOT RETURN home until Civil Defence gives the all-clear message.

If you need to evacuate please remember to take any medications with you.
